While there’s not normally much SOTA activity in area 3, this weekend I should be out for two days/one night activating five mountains with 6K5ZLH, calling CQ on 2 meters under the guise of 6K0FM/p. It will be entirely a QRP operation (I’m not going to carry an FT-857 or 12AH SLAB to go with it for two days 😉 so not sure how far the signal will go (though I have hit Jeju from Jeonju with just 5 watts and 5-seg collinnear, so we could be lucky). The plan is to go south to north on the ridge line just east of Boryeong (Daecheon Beach) starting at Okmasan, then a no-name (Wangjabong?), then the big one Seongjusan for overnight contacts, followed by Seongtaesan then Baekweolsan the morning/afternoon on Sunday. The whole deal appears to be around 12/13 miles, which in itself isn’t much, but like said above, we’ll be stopping at every of those peaks (those with 500′ (150m) prominence) to activate (make at least 4 QSOs). So, QRP VHF in Chungnam could see a bit of dilly-dallying… Based on the geography, going over the “Pyeongtaek plain” our signal should easily reach into Gyeonggi and maybe into Seoul, as well as a southerly direction. Daejeon is blocked by Gyeryongsan, so I don’t know what results I’ll have from that angle. |
